Bang for your Buck: 5 Easy Ways to Repurpose your Video Content
So you had a one-off budget to have an awesome video produced for you….that was a year or more ago, the views have declined but you still want to get the most out of it. How do you continue to get value out of what you paid for?
SUSTAINABILITY, REUSING, RECYCLING….
….These terms are everywhere these days, and with good reason. One more to add to the list is REPURPOSING.
Here are 5 easy ways of repurposing your existing video content that are worth thinking about:
1. Create a short teaser for an upcoming event.
You may have an event video or promotional video that is 2-3 minutes long (or longer). This is a gold mine of content to draw from to produce a fresh new 30-60 second “teaser” video in order to create new interest and boost attendance at your next event. Relevant new information can be incorporated too, all within a very small budget – usually only requiring editing time and sourcing of licensed music.
2. Create a new video from existing unseen content
Often the editor will have had hours of quality footage to draw from when putting together your video, and will have had to cut, cut and re-cut some great clips in order to keep the duration of your video as short as possible, and to fit the music/message. Why not explore using previously unseen footage to produce a fresh new video, perhaps with a different message, style or “look” altogether?
3. Update your existing video
Perhaps something is out of date in your video, or there is a new piece of information you want to add – this may only require minimal additional filming plus editing time. Combining new footage with “evergreen” content and a fresh edit can be a very cost-effective option.
4. Create a series of short stand-alone videos
Your video may have distinct sections that deserve some merit in their own right. How about creating a series of short attention-grabbing videos that you can release periodically, thereby creating a campaign ensuring ongoing interest and engagement with your audience? A 3 minute video could be repurposed into 3 unique 30 second videos suitable for Google Business, Facebook, Instagram… you name it.
5. Reach a new audience with a different angle
How about gathering all those interviews together to produce a new video? Or capturing new interviews with a different angle that can be illustrated with the existing video content? There may be new characters, a new message, new information or a new story that deserves to be told.
